🆕 New: Continental Shift Research Lab
We've launched a dedicated research page tracking the emerging pattern of intraplate seismicity vs plate-boundary faulting — building an open, archival dataset to document whether the continental drift cycle is entering a new accelerated phase.
Includes the Campi Flegrei anomaly case study — the recent ~M5.9–6.0 event where seismic wave propagation behaved fundamentally differently due to the caldera's subsiding ground structure. This is the kind of data point that rewrites hazard models.
🔬 Explore the Research Lab →Understanding Earth's Natural Changes
We need to stop being alarmist; this isn't man-made climate change, it's a pole shift—just normal geology of Earth! The planet is always changing, never stopping its shape-shifting. We can see it on satellite imaging and lidar; it's alive like any other organism, with its crust constantly moving—sometimes faster, sometimes slower—but always in motion. The new equator will eventually settle halfway into the USA, and the climate will adjust to its new position. This isn't man-made, it's simply normal geology!

Why Real-Time Seismic Monitoring Matters
Our planet's crust is constantly in motion, with tectonic plates shifting beneath our feet. When stress builds up along fault lines and is suddenly released, it generates seismic waves that can travel thousands of miles. Real-time monitoring of these events enables:
- Live Active Quake Map Global Quake Map available for free.
- Immediate Alert Systems: Early warning systems can provide seconds to minutes of advance notice, allowing people to take protective action before strong shaking arrives.
- Emergency Response Coordination: First responders and disaster management agencies rely on accurate, up-to-the-minute data to deploy resources effectively.
- Scientific Research: Continuous monitoring helps seismologists understand earthquake patterns, improve prediction models, and identify areas of increased risk.
- Public Awareness: Transparent access to seismic data helps communities understand their local risks and prepare accordingly.

Magnitude Scale
Earthquake magnitude measures the energy released. The moment magnitude scale (Mw) is logarithmic—each whole number increase represents approximately 31.6 times more energy released. A magnitude 7.0 earthquake releases about 1,000 times more energy than a magnitude 5.0.
Depth & Impact
Earthquake depth significantly affects surface impact. Shallow earthquakes (0-70 km deep) typically cause more localized but intense damage. Deep earthquakes (300-700 km) are felt over wider areas but generally cause less surface damage due to wave attenuation.
Frequency
Globally, approximately 500,000 detectable earthquakes occur each year. Of these, only about 100,000 are felt by people, and roughly 100 cause damage. Major earthquakes (magnitude 7.0+) occur about 10-20 times annually worldwide.
ESP32 Seismic Detection - Alpha Testing Dashboard
We're developing next-generation earthquake monitoring technology using ESP32 microcontrollers with ADXL345 accelerometers. This alpha build demonstrates our vision for distributed, community-powered seismic detection networks.
🔬 Current Features (Alpha Build)
- STA/LTA Algorithm: Industry-standard Short-Term Average / Long-Term Average detection with 6.0 trigger ratio for reliable earthquake detection while minimizing false alarms.
- Real-Time Waveform Display: Live visualization of 3-axis accelerometer data (X, Y, Z) with RMS calculations showing ground motion intensity.
- HTTPS Data Transmission: Secure transmission of seismic readings every 15 seconds, with immediate alerts when earthquakes are detected.
- Device Management: Multi-sensor network support with online/offline status tracking and location mapping for each device.
- Event Classification: Automatic categorization of seismic events (tremor, shake, strong, critical) based on magnitude and RMS values.
⚠️ Alpha Testing Notice
This is an experimental prototype, not a production monitoring system. The ESP32 dashboard demonstrates proof-of-concept technology for future community-based seismic networks. Data accuracy and reliability are being evaluated during this alpha phase.
The Vision: Community Seismic Network
Imagine thousands of low-cost ESP32 sensors deployed worldwide, creating a dense detection grid that complements professional seismometer networks. This alpha dashboard previews how such a network would operate—aggregating data from multiple devices, detecting local tremors, and providing hyper-local earthquake awareness to communities.
Technical Specs: 3200 Hz sampling rate, ±16G range, 0.15s short-term window, 3.0s long-term window, 15-second debounce period. The system uses a circular buffer to maintain 3200 samples for continuous analysis while optimizing memory usage on the ESP32 microcontroller.
